On this day in 1963, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir played music together for the first time. Jerry Garcia (guitar, vocals), Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Ron “Pigpen” McKernan (keyboards, harmonica, vocals), Phil Lesh (bass, vocals), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums) founded the Grateful Dead in 1965. Current touring reincarnations of the Dead include Further and Phil Lesh and Friends.
