On this day in 1969, an article is published in the St. Louis Globe Democrat about collector, Denver Wright Jr. who had an extensive beer can collection. Wright soon found out that he was not alone in this hobby and he as well as several others in the St. Louis area began visiting one another’s collections.
Six months later, they formed the Beer Can Collectors of America (BCCA) in order for hobbyists to share beer can passion. One year later, in 1971, the BCCA had over 300 members and held a convention called the CANvention.
By 1976, membership grew to over 8,000 gaining the interests of beer companies, such as Falstaff Brewing, who began putting out Bicentennial collector’s cans. Today, the club is known as Brewery Collectibles Club of America in order to include other brewiana. Do you or someone you know have a beer can collection? Some are incredible!
