On this day in 1866, beer pioneer, Rafael Meza Ayau, is born and on this same day in 1939, he dies. Don Rafael moved from Guatemala to El Salvador to create a beer empire at the young age of 20 and although it took some time, he opened the first brewery in El Salvador in 1906 called “La Constancia”.
This is where his brand Pilsener flourished for many decades and even after it merged with Polar Brewery in 1935. In 2006, “Industrias La Constancia” and it’s Pilsener celebrated 100 years!
