On this day in 1891, Fuller’s Brewery in England brewed an XX Strong Ale. Since that time period, the rich ale fell off the radar until recently. Fuller’s, who has been archiving recipes since 1845, is blowing the dust off vintage concoctions of brewers of the past and releasing long, but not totally forgotten rarities for beer enthusiasts.
Fuller’s (Past Masters’) isn’t the only establishment reaching into the sands of time for old recipes. Breweries such as Boston Beer (New Albion Ale), Dogfish Head (Ancient Ales), and Tivoli Brewing Company (Tivoli Beer and Sigi’s Wild Horse Buck Beer), to name a few, are brewing up history.
