Inky Beer Factoid: August 21

f7a9e3715660dc059220bb124f4970b3On this day in 1950, Schlitz Brewing Company out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin released an advertisement in Newsweek Magazine involving the growing popularity of square dancing.  Unfortunately, many square dancers were not too pleased that an alcoholic beverage was tarnishing their image because dancers depended on using spaces such as churches and schools to participate in their activity.  Great effort was made to get beer companies such as Schlitz to remove their ads.

Here are a few of Inky Beer’s favorite Schlitz advertisements from 1950s!  Interestingly, after perusing through the old advertisements, it appears that only white people drank Schlitz in the 1950s!
