Inky Beer Factoid: August 13

On this day in 2005, North Carolina’s state legislature passed House Bill 392 amending a law which set the cap for the amount of alcohol in beer (either brewed or sold) from 6% ABV (alcohol by volume) to 15%.  Local brewers and beer-lovers alike campaigned for two years to get this almost 70-year old law changed.

The campaign was called “Pop the Cap”.  Perhaps this is why successful breweries are making a mad dash to open another satellite brewery in Asheville, NC.  Makes you wonder!
