What is Peste?

Peste is the Spanish word for evil, but really is referring to the first of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the last book of the New Testament of the Bible, called the Book of Revelation. The chapter tells of a “‘scroll, in God’s right hand that is sealed with seven seals”. The Lamb of God opens the first four of the seven seals, which summons forth four beings that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. Although some interpretations differ, in most accounts, the four riders are seen as symbolizing Conquest,War, Famine, and Death, respectively.

This interpretation replaces Conquest with Pestilence (i.e. infectious disease), and is used as the basis for many uses of the Four Horsemen concept in popular culture.

What would Inky Beer Do?

Stay indoors. Buy a lot of plastic and duct tape to make your home airtight. And, while you’re at it, buy the best gas mask money can buy. To make people think you have the plague, graffiti something like this one your garage door. This way people will stay away!

The masks were designed to protect them from putrid air, which (according to the miasmatic theory of disease) was seen as the cause of infection.Being a plague doctor was unpleasant, dangerous and difficult. Their chances of survival in times of a plague epidemic were slim. (Wikipedia)
